Stained Glass Window

The window was designed by a member of the Museum. It was built by the North Western Lead Company, Cheshire. It is not a traditional leaded window, the window is a single sheet of glass and the lead strips have been added on later.

The four corners of the window show the Coats of Arms of the four borough through which the Wandle flows.

Top left - Merton\ Bottom left - Sutton\ Top right - Croydon\ Bottom right - Wandsworth\

The main Picture shows a water wheel, and people bleaching calico.

The symbols on the main picture represent some of the industries associated with the Wandle.
