Pinning out the Silk

For out reach purposes we have prepared travelling pads. These are of wood, covered in layers of felt and hessian. The slightly yielding surface is essential for clean printing. In a commercial works, the length of silk, backed by calico would be stuck down smoothly by ironing it onto the printing surface spread with gum arabic (this then being removed by washing later in the process) and firmly fixed at the edges with tape.
